Property, Houses and Flats for Sale in Greenwich, South East London

An abundance of transport links, lots of green space, a lively market and famous residents make Greenwich a highly desirable place to live.

Living in Greenwich

Greenwich has a mixture of period architecture, new builds and a good sense of community. Your neighbours are likely to be a mixture of professional first-time buyers and young families.

Attractions such as the Cutty Sark, Royal Greenwich Observatory and the Maritime Museum are complemented by a series of modern developments aimed at reinventing Greenwich.

The choice for shopaholics is vast, with an inviting atmosphere at Greenwich's market, while Canary Wharf now has three shopping malls. With over 200 shops, restaurants, cafés and bars, it's now a real alternative to the West End for high street favourites and individual boutiques.

West Greenwich is considered to be the most desirable and expensive area, with highly sought after attractive period homes. Croom's Hill and the surrounding roads feature Georgian houses, and the Ashburnham Triangle is popular, featuring flat-fronted early Victorian properties.

Development is happening on a large scale, with many first-time buyers drawn to apartments in state-of-the-art developments in East Greenwich. Neighbouring areas for consideration include Charlton, Blackheath, Kidbrooke, Deptford and Woolwich.

Transport

The London Underground Jubilee Line runs northeast from North Greenwich to Stratford. Westbound from North Greenwich to Canary Wharf (DLR interchange), Canada Water/Surrey Quays, Bermondsey, London Bridge, Southwark, Waterloo, Westminster, then on to Green Park, and north to Stanmore.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) runs from Greenwich, serving Lewisham, Elverson Road and Deptford Bridge. Northbound, the service runs to Island Gardens and other stations via Canary Wharf to Tower Hill or Bank in central London.

The River Thames Boat Service operates a half-hourly timetable from April to October from Greenwich Pier to Westminster and Barrier Gardens. The journey time in either direction is around 30 minutes.

In nearby Woolwich, the Woolwich ferry is a free service operating between Woolwich and North Woolwich, linking the north and south circular roads across the Thames.

There are plenty of bus routes serving the area, which include a number of night buses.

History and culture

Bustling Greenwich has a great atmosphere, fostered by markets, pubs and restaurants and a popular theatre.

Home to the Cutty Sark, the Meridian timeline and the O2 Arena, Greenwich retains its historic elements and yet still looks to the future.

Greenwich, together with four other boroughs, will host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, bringing many opportunities to the borough, which will last well beyond London 2012.
